Dell Inc. strengthens Healthcare
IT presence with Rebrovick appointment
A recent Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:
DELL) financial report suggested that the $51.1 billion
company's American Business segment drew particular
strength from the Small- to Medium-business market and
Education sector during the fiscal quarter
ending April 29, during which segment net
revenues rose about $900 Million over year-earlier, to
$6.6 billion. Dell performance in the Healthcare sector
was not mentioned.
Given that the powers-that-be
in Round Rock, Texas, have recently named Nashvillian
Linda Rebrovick to lead Dell Healthcare sales
as vice president, Dell's healthcare
operations may soon earn more prominence
in the company's financial reports. Meanwhile, her
impact will surely also be felt during her current
term as Chairman of the Nashville Technology Council (NTC) and as a Vice Chairman of
the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Rebrovick stresses that Dell
is already well established in the healthcare
arena, a point underscored by the June 2005 Healthcare
Informatics ranking of Top 100 technology enterprises
(with Dell at No. 11). Dell President and CEO Kevin Rollins also made clear in
his June 21 column in The Wall
Street Journal that Dell believes that "Information
technology can and must serve as the primary catalyst
for dramatic change" in improving quality and lowering
costs associated with delivery of healthcare services.
Rollins holds leadership positions in a number of key
trade groups that will help provide the IT catalyst,
including the Computer Systems Policy
Project.
Rebrovick explains that Dell
Healthcare marketing will be driven by a desire to
enable providers to drive down costs using technologies,
creating what she describes as the "intelligent point of
care" in the clinical setting. She and Dell
colleagues are developing fresh approaches toward
introducing the Dell model into the healthcare sector,
with emphasis on standards, workflow management,
just-in-time capability.
Rebrovick previously served as
executive vice president and chief marketing officer for
BearingPoint, Inc., where in ten years she created and
led a healthcare consulting practice and then managed
the company's global brand launch and management, as it
spun-away from KPMG Consulting. While with KPMG
Consulting, Rebrovick quadrupled southeast consulting
business; led a KPMG e-learning partnership with
DigitalThink; was elected to the firm's board of
directors, while serving major KPMG
clients. Her responsibilities spanned
provider, payer and life sciences industries, developing
customer management, supply chain, care delivery and
finance solutions. (Her emphasis on marketing
accountability and her meticulous approach to brand
management are reflected in a 2003 commentary for ITSMA; and
in her June 2004 presentation before the International
Association of Business Communicators.)
Rebrovick had previously
spent nearly sixteen years with IBM in sales,
marketing, consulting and management positions,
ultimately leading IBMs Tennessee consulting practice,
earning many accolades along the way, including IBM
Business Unit Executive of the Year.
Interviewed last week, Nashville-based Rebrovick
said she believes her large Dell Healthcare
Sales and consulting team is prepared to leverage the
renowned "Dell Effect" and the company's existing
healthcare presence to enable healthcare providers,
individual physicians and patients to afford and
acquire the technologies they need to address
such things as electronic medical and health records
(EMR, EHR). Rebrovick declined to reveal Healthcare
staffing and revenue numbers, but available information
makes clear the unit's resources rival those
of other local healthcare IT technology and
consulting organizations.
Rebrovick is active in many
community, professional and civic roles. She
currently serves on the boards of directors of Pinnacle Financial Partners and HealthStream; and, served on Gov.
Phil Bredesen's Special Committee on University of
Tennessee Governance.
She serves on the Board of
Advisors of the Auburn University College of Business,
from which she graduated with Honors and a Marketing
degree in 1977. She was also named an Outstanding Alumni
Businesswoman as part of a Southeastern Conference (SEC)
awards program in which Auburn University
participated. While a student on the Auburn
campus, Rebrovick's drive and intellect led professors
to urge her to pursue a career as a sales executive
(Washington Post, April 2004). While
enrolled, her many extracurricular activities
included student corporate liaison and a year as
Miss Auburn. After
graduation, Rebrovick was cited as one of
Auburn's Top 400 Women Graduates of the past
century. She has held numerous leadership
positions in such community groups as Tennessee
Leadership; Davidson County Business and Professional
Women's Club, which selected her "Woman of the Year";
Leadership Nashville; and, United Way of Middle
Tennessee, which accorded her the Dr. Thomas Frist 2004
Volunteer of the Year Award, in recognition of her many
senior campaign-leadership contributions. Rebrovick
resides in Nashville with husband Art, who is
founder of Nashville Management Group, also an
NTC member-firm. Newscoverage of Rebrovick
appointment: Tennessean, June 20; Nashville Business Journal, June
