Nashville's BBX
Technologies'
ImmuneEngine
is apparently getting intense scrutiny from
Feds and others who want to protect networks,
Federal Computer Week (FCW), Aug. 16
(mistakenly labeled June 21 on web). The FCW
article suggests, apparently correctly, that BBX's
technology is at work today in The White House,
among other places. BBX Founder, Chairman,
CTO and Co-CEO Bob Perry yesterday told NTC
the firm recently completed a private round of
recapitalization. Perry, 44, served as a U.S.
Marine in Beirut, where he survived the terrorist
bombing of the U.S. barracks there, in 1983. He
later earned a management degree with IS emphasis
in California, and learned his way around the
Dotcom world, much as he learned to navigate
the intelligence community.

TN Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Director
Mark Gwyn
said Aug. 26 he's "studying" the controversial
MATRIX database that helps law enforcement track
terrorists. Prior to Gwyn's appointment, TBI said
it would defer its decision regarding membership
in MATRIX until after a new director was in-place.
Gwyn made his remark Thursday before the mid-TN
chapter of Society of Professional Journalists
(SPJ). He said he wants to double the size of
TBI's computer-forensics division due to the
rising tide of cybercrime, particularly identity
theft and related felonies, and child pornography.
In wide-ranging remarks, Gwyn also noted that
TBI's Instacheck gun-permitting system had in the
past year identified 216 wanted criminals who were
trying to buy weapons. Related: Feds promise to

Choate's Bondware Inc. issues
3.0 version of web technology system, launches
a market for software developed with Open Source
tools
On Aug. 18, Tim Choate, president and CEO
of Bondware Inc.,
announced the formation of the firm's latest
online community,
serving both customers who adopt the recently
unveiled Bondware’s 3.0 website system, and the
software developers who use Open Source tools to
develop plug-in components for sites driven by
Bondware technology.
The technology entrepreneur now boasts
three digital communities generating a total of
more than $2 million in annual revenues from the
existing three-year-old Bondware business,
(centered around a database-driven,
membership-based website business model); from
three-year-old Songramp.com,
(serving independent songwriters); and, from the
Renderosity.com
computer-animation community and marketplace,
which today has more than 250,000 users and 1,400
merchants after six years in operation. Choate
also played a role in the formation of EdgeNet
Inc., in which he retains an ownership
position.
In Bondware 3.0, Choate's objective is to
further reduce the cost of website ownership and
operation for non-techie business owners and
individuals, while introducing incentives in the
form of royalties for the developers who can
ensure the quality, variety, cost and
marketability of components they offer via
Bondware.
"Unless things change in the web
development world, independent developers will
never produce 'million-seller' products, and
developers will continue to reap only meager
economic rewards for their personal investment of
time and energy," Choate explains. "In many cases,
programmers across the nation are needlessly
reinventing the wheel, simply because they are
operating in isolation, without direct easy access
to software markets. On top of that, necessary
standards are often lacking to ensure that their
products will be compatible with a broad base of
customers."
Bondware has begun enlisting developers
with expertise in the Open Source PHP language and
MySQL database that Bondware 3.0 employs as its
core technology. Choate said Bondware will also
authorize as Bondware Affiliates web developers
and technology integrators who adopt Bondware 3.0
in serving their own clients; and, will license
the core Bondware technology for use within
non-Bondware sites that employ the PHP
language.
Choate, 40, began his entrepreneurial
career in 1993, after seven years in a number of
information-technology positions with such groups
as Arnold Engineering and Development Center
(AEDC). He founded Edge Internet Services, one of
the mid-state’s first internet providers. Later,
he helped found Nashville-based software developer
Edgenet Inc. In 2003 Choate led a spin-off of
Edgenet's Bondware technology. Choate is chairman of the NTC Software Developers
Roundtable,
previously led the Tech Roundtable
program series; and, while leading EdgeNet, was a
founding member of NTC.
