UPFRONT:
The State of Tennessee's
long-anticipated, multi-year statewide Premise Wiring
and Cabling Services contract, valued in its first year
at an estimated $7 Million, seems likely to go to
Black Box Network
Services(SBC Project
Number 529/000-06-03).
State Building Commission on Jan. 8 approved State
Architect Mike Fitts' recommendation that the "best
evaluated proposal" was from Black Box Network Services,
a Pittsburgh firm with more than 20 years' midstate
presence, with offices in Murfreesboro, Nashville. The
award could happen as early as Friday, Jan. 16th.
A TN Economic & Community
Development spokesman told NTC yesterday that E&CD
may be within two weeks of selecting its first Director
of Technology, the leader who will be charged with
promoting Tennessee's tech resources and other duties.

CLARCOR Inc.'s relocation to Nashville from
Rockford, IL, means that Pete Nangle, VP - Information
Services & CIO, will soon relocate to Nashville,
which he has often visited. CLARCOR's IT operations are
decentralized globally, but Nangle says his relatively
small headquarters tech staff will manage worldwide core
functions, including E-commerce, payroll, finance, and

Jeff Duncan, Louisiana
Pacific Corp.'s VP-CIO, has begun
his relocation to Nashville. He's the only IT staff
member that LP currently plans to relocate from

Metro
Schools IT resources
grow stronger: Nashville's
public schools expect to turn on the district's new
Library Management System, now being implemented by
The Library
Corp. (Inwood, WVa.) by the end of
February. TLC got the assignment in October. At the same
time, 4GL School
Solutions (Towson, Md.) is preparing for
a pilot this spring with participating Metro teachers,
who will be provided support for development of
individualized education plans (IEPs). Meanwhile, Chancery (BC
Canada) continues to implement the massive Student
information and management system for Nashville's Metro
Schools; and, Metro's high schools are expected to use
SMS for registering students for the 04-05
schoolyear.
This Friday brings Nashville's 2nd
Wildcard of the winter, when student-entrepreneurs
participate in a special round of the prestigious
national Venture Capital Investment
Competition; teams are from
Arizona, Georgetown, Georgia, Notre Dame, Purdue, Wake

Later today, the State's data-entry
services RFP
03-110 is likely to
produce a best-evaluated proposer from among bidders:
Knoxville Computer Corp.; Office at Home Enterprises
Inc. (OffSite Works); AST Medical Services/Internet
Medical Billing Services; Health Data Inc.; The Data
Entry Company (TDEC); Genesis Inc.; Empower Facility
Services. A note regarding the notification of bidders
may be posted this morning here.
On Monday (1/12), Gartner
Inc. learned it had been
identified as the best-evaluated proposer responding
to Tennessee OIR's RFP 317.03-109 for IT research and advisory services.
Other bidders were Forrester Research, META Group,
Jupiter
Research.
Monday, also, the State's salient
Powerbuilder RFP 03-111
attracted bids from PowerObjects, Inc.; Sybase;
Drexel Technical, Inc.; Computer Aid, Inc.; HCL
Technologies (Mass.), Inc.; Digital Fusion Solutions,
Inc.; Comforce; SCB Computer Technology, Inc.; KBM;
Zycron Computer Services, Inc.; Majestic Systems
Integration, Inc. Evaluation expected this
week.
Metro Schools seeks a technology
partner to manage employment applications; questions
on RFP due by Friday; bidders conference Jan. 20,
proposals currently due by Feb. 7. RFP 03-180.

seeks comments on the State's
